American destinies ; What have they become ?

Patrick was born on April 19th, 1900 in Waterford, Ireland.

He was an officer in the merchant navy at the Red Star Line Company based in Antwerp.

He crossed the Atlantic several times aboard of the liners of the Red Star Line.

He was a colleague of my great uncle René, brother of my maternal grandmother.

He met Lydia, René’s sister and they married in Antwerp in 1920.

In early 1940, when Belgium was occupied, the couple left Antwerp for England and settled in greater London.

One census in Ireland in 1901 tells us that Patrick had 5 sisters, Kate, Mary, Bridget, Maggie, Eileen, and 4 brothers, James, John, Joseph, William, all born between 1887 and 1909.

Except Patrick, they all migrated to the USA.
